As an astrologer I have recently noticed upsurge of interest in composite or synastry readings — many more questions about relationship dynamics than purely personal readings… looks like the mating instinct is in the air. I guess this could be rationalised with the onset of the spring/summer season however there is also a deeper astrological reasoning.
In this article I’d like to play a little with the movements of Mars and Venus, the inner planets that don’t usually have an impact on long-term trends but certainly do act as triggers or precipitators. First however, let’s take yet another look at Neptune, due to it ruling the collective longing for a love that is pure.
Neptune has been transiting Aquarius for years creating, on one level, an abstract or mental attitude to love and relationship through the virtual or cyber realities of the internet. For sure most know the enormous time and energy invested in facebook, twitter and online connection. It’s almost as if throughout this transit many are dematerialising in the hope they will stay connected, and possibly meet that someone special in cyberspace.
This is far from the ancient and visceral need to express love and connection through the Pan and Priestess archetypes, and early next year when Neptune leaves Aquarius and enters Pisces the deep suffering from aloneness and separation will become all too real and the need to withdraw from the ‘world’ will be an imperative so as to re-spiritualise love.
This transit of the planet Neptune through Pisces should really begin to heal that pain of separation the human psyche has been experiencing.
How to prepare?
That brings us back to Mars and Venus, currently in Scorpio, which is often considered one of the sexiest of signs. Well, Venus is set to stay in Scorpio for an unusually long time frame of four months and she is currently sticking very close to Mars. These planets both rule ou Café r drive for relationship, hence this drive is being highly accentuated now, bringing with it the impulse to understand more deeply the implications of romance, sex and friendships, particularly the apparent lack of these qualities as we have been engaging in more virtual and non-real manifestation.
So it really is the perfect time to explore the ancient paradigms, to wake up from the fogginess of anxiety, fear or dissociation that has been the theme for the last several years. If we can’t love one another then how can we move together into loving the planet as is needed by Neptune in Pisces next year.
It is time to explore those deeper motivations between our self and others close to us and weed out the ritual of selfishness and separation. No more of that ‘yes dear’ avoidance; use the Scorpio intensity to get to the bottom of things in the dynamics between yourself and those nearest to you.
Remember back when Neptune was in Scorpio in the sixties, it was the age of free love, and here we are again presented with an opportunity to free up love through the agency of these two very personal planets, Mars and Venus.
