Today Mum bought home the Injoy Magazine, I just want to say that I think what you did on the front cover, with the yellow balloon, was really beautiful thing to do in remembering Jai Morcom who tragically died in August 2009 at our school, Mullumbimby High School.
You are a writer that always tells the truth, you don’t twist people’s minds, you always know what to say, and how to say it. I also loved what you wrote for the editor’s note in the Oct/Nov 09 issue, about the awful way the media dealt with Jai’s death. I was there when the media came to our school and all the students were really, really upset, as you would expect, but the media did made it much worse. They kept harassing our school, reporting things that didn’t happen, and twisting the story. It made Jai’s family and friends even more upset.
Mullumbimby High did many wonderful and loving things in remembering Jai after his tragic death in the schoolyard. Students created a memorial wall in the school near where he passed away, which will stay there forever. It is a reminder of that tragic day, but it will remind people of the lesson, how wrong violence is. This gives time a message to forgive and move forward, but never to forget Jai.
Thank you for making a magazine that makes people relate to themselves and their life. I feel reading this magazine touches everyone, it touches me and it’s all because of you Bhadrena, you made it happen. As editor you choose the articles and all the little things that make it what it is.
