Australian Drama Starring Frances O’Connor, Miranda Otto and Deborra-Lee Furness

Another wonderful Aussie film with searingly honest portrayals of the relationship between mothers and their children. Told in two parts, first the children’s point of view, followed by the mother’s. Superb acting, deeply emotional, and quietly uplifting.

Japanese Film Starring Masahiro Motoki 

Diago returns to his home town and takes a job for  ‘Working with Departures’. At first he thinks it’s as a travel agent, but it turns out to be preparing the dead for encoffment. This film explores the very beautiful ceremonies in which the dead are washed, dressed and made up before being placed in coffins. Told with excellent humour by very affectionate characters... I was moved to tears.

Biography/Drama Starring Robert Downey Jr and Jamie Fox. Directed by Joe Wright

This is a powerful story of journalist, Steve Lopez’s encounters with Daniel Ayers, a homeless and brilliant musician with schizophrenia. Riveting performances by both Fox and Downey, and Beethoven’s music is tremendously moving throughout this film.
